Earlier this month we celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary. Which still seems incredible to me, especially as co-workers at the time said we wouldn’t last a month! Yet here we are, 12 years later with 9 years of marriage and 5 children!
As we enjoyed a romantic meal together (once the kids had gone to bed) to celebrate our anniversary, hubby mentioned how he wished he could’ve given me a better honeymoon. At the time, money was tight and with a 15mth old son and being 3mths pregnant I hadn’t wanted to go far. In fact we’d planned our wedding around a week’s holiday in Blackpool we had already booked.
Hubby wanted to know if I regretted our honeymoon to Blackpool and did I wish I’d gone further? Venice maybe or Paris, as they are often recognised as two of the most romantic cities in the world with beautiful hotels.
Yet I enjoyed my honeymoon in Blackpool. I enjoyed having my son with us and my only regret was I wasn’t able to go on any of the rides at Pleasure Beach because I was pregnant. I didn’t even care that my parents turned up for the day, or that hubby invited them to stay overnight. In fact I treasure the memory and the knowledge that my husband has a close enough relationship with them that not only did he mind, he was the one who offered to let them stay!
He then suggested that maybe we looked into our own little honeymoon next year to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. “With the internet now it’s so much easier to find and book hotels in Paris. Especially with your skills at finding bargains and discounts, so it wouldn’t be that expensive to go!” He said. “We could get away for the weekend, just you and me!”
I guess we have a year to plan and save for it. But one thing is for sure, one of us needs to
have the snip visit the doctor before we go, otherwise we might come back from our romantic weekend away with a little bit more of us than we left with!!!!
What about you? Where did you go for your honeymoon? Where would you have liked to have gone if money was no object?
